How do I help my friend who has just been diagnosed with cervical cancer?

Cameo asked:

My friend is 35 and found out yesterday that she has cervical cancer. She says she threw up most of last night (not because she’s sick, it’s because she’s so upset). I know that many people can overcome cervical cancer and that this is a cancer that can be treated. If you have any suggestions on how I can support her, that would be appreciated.

Try to be there for her and support her. Maybe take her to her doctor’s appointments, and be a listening ear when she needs to just talk. Be her encouragement, and let her know she has a friend, and is not alone.

I wish only the very best to you, and your friend.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend. You just need to be there for her to listen, laugh, cry, take her to appointments, etc. The most important thing is to just spend time with her and do what feels right for you. You can offer to take her to appointments, ask her if she wants you to help her research options and things like that. It’s really tough watching a loved one go through something like this but you will know what is right. You wont ever regret spending as much time as possible with her. Good Luck! If you ever want to talk, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me.
