Sadly, Stage Four is the final stage of cancer. I am a person of faith, so I suggest first off: prayer. I am a cancer survivor, stage 3 colon cancer. I will be praying for your family. Treatment has to be a very thought out and solemn decision every step of the way. What is most important to him? Quality of life? Quantity of time? Is he comfortable, or in pain? I am unsure what the pill is, but the more information you have the better about medications, chemo, etc.

I am afraid that is very advanced but if there is a pill that may help him beat the odds then I would advise he considers it thoroughly.
He now has the decision to make about taking a drug that may help cure or prolong his life but it may have nasty side-effects that decrease his quality of life. He needs to speak with his oncologist about known side effects and if this pill is meant to cure the cancer or simply prolong life expectancy.
If he does decide to take it then he should be aware of side effects and know that he is able to stop whenever he feels he wants to. if he decides against it then he will have the ‘what if’ problem to deal with. I have known some patients who have taken the treatment option and had a long painful period before either recovering or dying. Some others have chosen not to fight it but make the most of their remaining time and thus had better quality of life before dying.
Only your dad can choose what he wants to do but it will help to have you all near to offer him support.
My heart goes out to you all – it is a very difficult time.
